Biodiversity Awareness
We go the extra mile, educating guests about local biodiversity during boat rides along the Mahaweli River. This helps to raise awareness and appreciation for the diverse array of birds and reptiles in the area.
Tree Planting Programme
We encourage our hotel staff and guests to partake in tree planting initiatives to promote environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and carbon sequestration.
Waste Generation Reduction Strategies
Implementing comprehensive waste reduction measures, including proper waste segregation, use of water pouring jars, cloth laundry bags, and paper straws to minimise environmental impact and promote sustainable practices.
Waste Management Training
Conducting waste management awareness sessions in collaboration with the Public Health Inspector, we play an active role in promoting responsible waste management practices.
Upcycling Project
Repurposing discarded table mats into handbags, we aim to reduce waste and environmental impact while creating higher value products.
Reduction of Single Use Plastic
Implementing initiatives to minimise single use plastic throughout the hotel, the Resort has introduced the use of water pouring jars, cloth laundry bags, and paper straws. This is in line with Cinnamon Hotels and Resort’s wider goal of minimising single use plastic.
Energy and Water Saving Initiatives
We have implemented energy efficient technologies and water saving measures to promote conservation and sustainability, including LED lighting, low flow fixtures, and water efficient appliances.
Legionella Prevention and Control Awareness Session
We educate our staff on Legionella prevention and control measures to ensure public health and safety.
Community Projects
Lending a helping hand to the surrounding communities, we have initiated the Mahaweli riverbank cleanup to raise awareness about plastic pollution and environmental conservation.
We also participated in cleaning programmes organised during Asela Perahera days, lending our support to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of Kandy Lake and its surroundings.
GAP Farmer Project
Together with John Keells Foundation we are working closely with selected local farmers to promote good agricultural practices along with modern techniques.We help them create sustainable sources of income and promote agricultural development within the community.
Home Gardening Project
The Resort currently supports 55 home gardens, encouraging sustainability and self sufficiency in Sri Lanka. Under Phase II, 10 families from the community were chosen to participate in a competition aimed at selecting the best home garden. Fertilizers were also distributed as part of this ongoing project.
Bees that Sustain Life
This project was launched to raise awareness and educate the community about apiculture. Ten deserving beneficiaries received beekeeping equipment and necessary support to begin their apiculture journey.
