ESG
Our Resort is a thriving ecosystem of micro habitats, home to various species of animals and plants. Recognising the far reaching implications of our actions on the biodiversity of these surroundings and the society at large, we have integrated sustainability into every aspect of our operations, further empowering the communities we serve.
Biodiversity
Elephant Gathering Project
Initiated as 'The Gathering Goes On’ and in 2024 renamed as ‘The Gathering of Giants’, the Elephant Gathering Project by Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, in collaboration with Cinnamon Nature Trails and conservation partners, is a significant effort to preserve this globally recognised natural phenomenon. The project promotes responsible elephant viewing tourism and while mitigating human-elephant conflict via scientific research.
Cinnamon Elephant Project
A collaborative project by Cinnamon Nature Trails and Centre for Conservation and Research (CCR), this project aims to understand and study the Elephant herds that are part of ‘the gathering'. The collected data is then utilised for elephant conservation efforts and to enhance community protection.
Live and Let Live
A joint effort by Cinnamon Nature Trails and the TUI Foundation, this project aims to support Bendi Weva Village, where human-elephant conflict was a major issue. By setting up electric fences, we protect crops and homes while preserving elephant migratory routes.
Waste
Waste Management
Reducing waste and adopting circular economy practices are integral parts of our sustainability efforts. From repurposing waste through initiatives like biogas digesters to eliminating single use plastics across our properties, we strive to minimise our environmental footprint and move towards a zero waste future.
Community
Community Projects
Empowering communities and fostering a skilled workforce are central to our social impact initiatives. Through projects like the "Sara Midula" Community Home Gardening Initiative and the "Pasal Diriya" School Meal Programme, we address food security and child malnutrition while supporting local livelihoods.
Beekeeping Project
Initiated and launched by our staff, this project engages staff and community members in beekeeping to promote biodiversity and environmental conservation. It also provides valuable training and resources, while encouraging entrepreneurship.
Energy
Energy and Water Saving
We have implemented a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) that allows us to recycle water efficiently. To further our commitment to sustainability, we use LED lighting and sensor lighting, which are highly energy efficient. We also utilise solar panels to heat water, significantly reducing our reliance on non renewable energy.
Wellbeing
Employee Wellbeing
One of our signature initiatives, Project Aloka, is aimed at attracting, training and empowering female employees. This initiative aims to achieve 24% or higher female representation in our workforce by 2025. We have also initiated the ANAGRAM programme, our holistic well being initiative, to assist employees in identifying stress factors and thereby develop coping mechanisms.
