ESG
At Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon, we are dedicated to fostering a sustainable and thriving future for our island and its community. Our comprehensive ESG initiatives are designed to preserve the natural beauty and cultural heritage of our home.
Environmental impact
Biodiversity
Our house reef assessment covers vertebrate and invertebrate populations, identifying threatened species. This research, culminating in peer-reviewed papers, enhances marine conservation and biodiversity understanding.
Coral reef restoration
We restore coral ecosystems using reef cubes made from recycled glass and concrete. These structures support coral growth, boost biodiversity, and demonstrate our commitment to marine conservation.
Reef cube adaptation programme
Guests can purchase reef cubes to support coral growth and marine life. This initiative promotes sustainable habitats, combats climate change, and enhances biodiversity.
Ocean Data Logger Project
We monitor reef water quality using data loggers, tracking temperature, pH, salinity, and oxygen levels. This data helps assess reef health and detect trends affecting marine life.
Zero fumigation
We switched to sustainable mosquito control, saving 3650 liters of diesel and 380 liters of petrol annually. This eco friendly approach reduces synthetic pyrethroid use and promotes responsible tourism.
Waste reduction Initiatives
No Bin Day
Twice a week, our staff is encouraged to minimise food waste by managing portions. This initiative fosters mindful consumption and reduces our environmental footprint.
Waste reduction Initiatives
Waste measuring programme
This programme assesses waste generation across different areas. Our data driven approach helps us reduce, recycle, and manage waste efficiently.
Plastic reduction
To date, we have replaced 250,000 plastic bottles with refillable alternatives, 94,333 fizzy bottles with dispensers, and eliminated single use plastic straws, stirrers, and bags. These changes have significantly reduce single use plastic waste.
Energy & Water-Saving Initiatives
Energy saving practices
We encourage turning off unused lights, unplugging chargers, and using energy efficient equipment. Our 428 solar panels generate 150kw, saving 119,120 liters of diesel and reducing CO2 emissions by 157,320 kg.
Social Impact
Community projects
We source our vegetable produce and fish from local suppliers and engage in roof kadjan projects.
Employee wellbeing
We host ladies' parties, quarterly staff parties, health screenings, and other recreational activities. Sports tournaments and recognition programmes are also in the agenda.
Water bottle donation
We donated reusable aluminium water bottles to a nearby school, reducing plastic waste and making sustainability a conscious habit.
Organic farming
Our organic farm grows 20 types of produce without chemicals, supporting farm to plate dining and zero waste initiatives. Guests can also engage in our sustainable practices firsthand.
