ESG
At Habarana Village by Cinnamon, we are dedicated to sustainable hospitality practices, where every aspect of our operation is imbued with a deep commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. We meticulously preserve and celebrate the rich variety of flora and fauna native to Sri Lanka, fostering a harmonious ecosystem within and around our resort.
Biodiversity
Biodiversity Assessment and Conservation
With a diverse range of faunal and floral species, including numerous endemics, our Resort diligently evaluates and protects the species' natural habitats. From identifying endemic birds to nurturing butterfly gardens, our efforts are geared towards nurturing this ecosystem.
Biodiversity
Cinnamon Rainforest Restoration
As a part of our ongoing commitment towards environmental stewardship, we actively contribute towards the Cinnamon Rainforest Restoration project. Initiated by Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts through MoUs with the Forest Department of Sri Lanka and John Keells Foundation, this project aims to reforest 59 acres in Sri Lanka's wet zone.
Biodiversity
Lake cleanup project
Recognising the importance of preserving natural water bodies, we spearhead lake area cleanup projects to restore the balance of surrounding lakes. This is done by removing invasive species and collecting organic debris for composting.
Biodiversity
Cinnamon Nature Trails Elephant Gathering Project
In collaboration with conservation partners, we spearhead initiatives such as the Elephant Gathering Project to tackle human-elephant conflict and advocate for elephant conservation. These efforts involve responsible elephant viewing tourism and scientific research on elephants.
Community Projects
Community Home Gardening Initiative
Beyond environmental conservation, Habarana Village by Cinnamon is committed to empowering local communities through initiatives such as the Community Home Gardening Initiative. In collaboration with partners, our Resort promotes food security and sustainable livelihoods by facilitating home garden setups.
Repurposing Waste
We have set up biogas digesters within the premises, to convert food waste into biogas to be used in our kitchens as well as for heating. Additionally, waste oil generated through our operations is collected and converted to biodiesel through an approved vendor.
Energy and Water Saving
We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by increasing our energy efficiency. Replacement of all filament bulbs to LED, invertor type air conditioners and senser based lighting systems are a few of the changes we have already implemented. The property is also architecturally designed to enhance natural lighting to minimise the use of electricity. Further, we take active measures to harvest rainwater and protect the water bodies surrounding our property.
Employee Wellbeing
We believe that every action we take must result in the betterment of our people. One of our signature initiatives, Project Aloka, is aimed at attracting, training and empowering female employees. This initiative aims to achieve 24% or higher female representation in our workforce by 2025. We have also initiated the ANAGRAM programme, our holistic well being initiative, to assist employees in identifying stress factors and thereby develop coping mechanisms.
